Skin Biopsy & Minor Skin Surgery
A skin biopsy may be recommended when a mole or skin lesion cannot be diagnosed confidently from clinical examination alone or when laboratory assessment is needed.
Depending on the lesion, Dr Ben can discuss appropriate biopsy or minor skin surgery options following a clinical assessment.

Why Might a Skin Biopsy Be Recommended?
A biopsy may be considered when a lesion:
- Has suspicious clinical or dermoscopic features
- Is new or changing
- Has not healed as expected
- Requires confirmation of the diagnosis
- May represent a skin cancer or another skin condition
Types of Skin Biopsy & Minor Surgery
Depending on the size, location and nature of the lesion, options may include:
- Shave biopsy
- Punch biopsy
- Excisional biopsy
- Curettage or other minor skin procedures where appropriate
The most suitable technique depends on the clinical findings and treatment objective.
What Happens After a Biopsy?
The tissue may be sent to a pathology laboratory for histopathological examination.
Results are reviewed with you, and any further treatment or follow-up is discussed if required.
Healing & Aftercare
Aftercare depends on the procedure and may include:
- Wound care instructions
- Activity advice
- Suture care where relevant
- Follow-up review
- Discussion of pathology results
Any procedure on the skin can leave a scar, and healing varies between people.

Assessment in person is the only way to work out what is causing a skin concern and what can reasonably be done about it. Fees are explained before anything is arranged.
