Benign Skin Lesions

Many lumps, spots and growths on the skin are benign. However, lesions can sometimes look similar to one another, so an appropriate medical assessment can help establish the likely diagnosis before treatment or removal is considered.

Common Benign Skin Lesions

These may include:

  • Benign moles
  • Skin tags
  • Seborrhoeic keratoses
  • Cysts
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Other non-cancerous skin growths

Why Have a Benign Lesion Assessed?

An assessment may be useful if a lesion:

  • Is new
  • Has changed
  • Frequently catches or becomes irritated
  • Causes discomfort
  • Is difficult to identify
  • Is causing cosmetic concern

Does Every Benign Lesion Need Removal?

No.

Many benign lesions do not require treatment.

Removal may be considered when a lesion causes symptoms, recurrent irritation or cosmetic concern, provided the diagnosis and proposed treatment are appropriate.

Assessment in person is the only way to work out what is causing a skin concern and what can reasonably be done about it. Fees are explained before anything is arranged.
