Cosmetic Mole & Skin Lesion Removal
Some benign moles and skin lesions may be medically harmless but cause cosmetic concern, irritation or discomfort.
Following clinical assessment, Dr Ben can discuss whether cosmetic mole or lesion removal is appropriate and which technique may provide a suitable balance between lesion removal and the expected cosmetic outcome.

What Can Be Assessed for Removal?
Examples may include:
- Benign raised moles
- Skin tags
- Seborrhoeic keratoses
- Selected benign facial lesions
- Lesions that repeatedly catch on clothing or jewellery
- Other benign lesions causing cosmetic concern
Assessment Before Removal
All lesions should be assessed before cosmetic removal. This may include:
- Clinical examination
- Dermoscopy where appropriate
- Review of any changes
- Assessment of whether histopathology may be required
- Discussion of alternative options
If a lesion appears suspicious, cosmetic removal may not be the appropriate first step.
Choosing a Removal Method
The technique depends on factors such as:
- Type of lesion
- Size
- Location
- Depth
- Skin type
- Risk of scarring
- Need for histopathology
Options may include shave removal, excision or other suitable techniques following medical assessment.
Will There Be a Scar?
Any procedure that removes or disrupts the skin can potentially leave a scar or pigment change.
The expected cosmetic result, limitations and potential risks should be discussed before treatment.

Assessment in person is the only way to work out what is causing a skin concern and what can reasonably be done about it. Fees are explained before anything is arranged.
