Skin Cancer Treatment
Treatment for skin cancer depends on the type of lesion, its size and location, pathology findings and the individual patient's clinical circumstances.
Following assessment and diagnosis, Dr Ben can explain appropriate management options and whether treatment can be performed locally or requires referral to another specialist.

Treatment Depends on the Diagnosis
Management may differ for:
- Basal cell carcinoma (BCC)
- Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)
- Melanoma
- Bowen disease
- Actinic keratoses and other sun-related lesions
Not every lesion is treated in the same way.
Possible Skin Cancer Treatment Options
Depending on the diagnosis and clinical findings, options may include:
- Surgical excision
- Other minor skin procedures
- Topical treatment for selected lesions
- Monitoring where clinically appropriate
- Referral to a dermatologist, plastic surgeon or other specialist where required
For suspected melanoma, management is guided by appropriate diagnostic assessment and pathology.
What Happens After Treatment?
Follow-up may include:
- Review of pathology results
- Wound review
- Monitoring of the treated site
- Ongoing skin surveillance
- Advice regarding new or changing lesions
When Is Specialist Referral Needed?
Referral may be recommended when:
- The lesion is in a complex location
- The diagnosis requires specialist management
- More extensive surgery may be needed
- The pathology findings indicate additional treatment
- Multidisciplinary care is appropriate

Assessment in person is the only way to work out what is causing a skin concern and what can reasonably be done about it. Fees are explained before anything is arranged.
