Patient Information
Skin Cancer Fees & Medicare
We aim to provide clear information about skin cancer consultation fees, Medicare rebates and any additional costs that may apply to procedures or pathology.
Fees can vary depending on the type and length of consultation and whether additional procedures are required.

Consultation Fees
Current consultation fees, any applicable Medicare rebate and the expected out-of-pocket cost are confirmed with you when you book, before your appointment.
Fees depend on the type and length of the appointment and on whether any procedure is needed, so different appointment types may have different fees.
Medicare Rebates
Eligible consultations and procedures may attract a Medicare rebate when the relevant Medicare requirements are met. The rebate depends on:
- The service provided
- The Medicare item number used
- Patient eligibility
- Whether the service meets Medicare requirements
A rebate is not available for every consultation or procedure.
Additional Procedure Costs
A separate fee may apply for:
- Skin biopsy
- Excision
- Minor skin surgery
- Wound care
- Histopathology
- Follow-up procedures
- Other treatment where required
Where possible, expected costs are discussed before proceeding.
Pathology Fees
Pathology and histopathology charges may depend on:
- The pathology provider
- Medicare eligibility
- The type of specimen submitted
- Whether additional testing is required
Pathology is billed by the laboratory, and not every test is bulk billed.
Private Health Insurance
Private health insurance generally does not replace Medicare for standard outpatient medical consultations. Coverage for some services may vary by insurer and policy.
If you are unsure, please confirm directly with your insurer.

Assessment in person is the only way to work out what is causing a skin concern and what can reasonably be done about it. Fees are explained before anything is arranged.
